HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds took off like they usually do, jumping out to an early 9-2 lead, forcing a timeout from AIC at the 5:04 mark. The Yellow Jackets slowly got their way back into the game, as they exploded into a 12-0 run to end the quarter and leave it tied up at 16. Kayla Robinson led the way for all scorers with ten in the period.
The run continued into the second quarter, as AIC went up 20-17, forcing a timeout out of Assumption. Halfway through the quarter, the Greyhounds had only scored three points. The struggles would continue from beyond the arc, as Assumption was shooting 22.2 percent from three-point land. With the help of two huge
Amanda Mieczkowski threes, the Greyhounds were able to tie things up going into halftime, as they went on a 9-4 in the last six minutes. At the break,
Monica Spain led the way with seven points.
It was a much better start for Assumption in the second half, as a quick 6-0 run gave them a lead that forced a timeout from the Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets got it within one after the timeout, but then both teams went cold for a couple of minutes until
Molly Stokes got to the line with 3:58 to go, burying both. The Greyhounds kept the Yellow Jackets in it with their turnovers, as it reached eight by the end of the period. A buzzer-beating layup by the visitors gave them a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The first opening minutes started slow as both sides eased their way into the last ten. To get back into it, Spain drew several fouls from the Yellow Jackets, as her free throws at 5:41 tied things up again. The visitors refused to go away, as Robinson drilled a huge three with four minutes to play to tie things up again. Stokes came alive again with a huge three with 2:44 to go, but once again, the visitors responded with a three-ball of their own. With ten seconds left, the Yellow Jackets had a chance to win the game. The Yellow Jackets came into Laska and gave the Greyhounds their first home loss of the year, 53-49.
