NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 23/RV Assumption University women's basketball team rallied from down 13 to rally to pick up a 56-50 win at Southern Connecticut State University to lock up a share of the regular season title.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After
Monica Spain opened the game with a jumper for the Greyhounds, the Southern Connecticut defense gave Assumption fits. The hosts forced nine turnovers in the opening ten minutes to take a 12-8 lead.
The Owls would carry a 3-0 run into the second quarter, but that would quickly expand to a 12-0 run three minutes in. Southern Connecticut's lead grew to 13 points (21-8) following a jumper by Zoë Amalbert. The Greyhounds slowly chipped away at the deficit but would remain down 11 (27-16) at the intermission.
Assumption used a huge third quarter to nearly eliminate the margin, as they outscored 22-13 in the third quarter, as
Ja'Lyn Armstrong and
Amanda Mieczkowski combined for 12 points in the frame. With the Greyhounds trailing 40-29 with 2:59 remaining in the quarter, the Hounds went on a 7-0 run to end the third before carrying the momentum over to the fourth.
The visitors continued their run into the fourth, scoring the first nine points of the frame to take a 49-40 lead with 5:51 remaining in regulation.
Molly Stokes drained a three-pointer, putting Assumption up ten points (52-42) with 4:48 showing on the clock. The Owls would cut the deficit to six points, but the Greyhounds would hold on to record a 56-50 win on the road.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Amanda Mieczkowski led the Greyhounds with 13 points while also adding five rebounds and a pair of assists.
- Ja'Lyn Armstrong scored ten points, while Teagan Curran chipped in ten points off the bench.
- Assumption outrebounded Southern Connecticut 40-30, as the Greyhounds outscored the Owls 28-20 in the paint.
- With the win, the Greyhounds set the program record for the most wins in a single season, surpassing the 2007-08, 2010-11, and 2012-13 squads.
- Assumption also clinched a share of the Northeast-10 Conference Regular Season Title, which is the first time in program-history that the Greyhounds has won the title.
