Men's Lacrosse Opens 2023 Campaign with 22-6 win over Felician

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team opened the 2023 campaign with a 22-goal outburst, as the Greyhounds defeated Felician University 22-6 Wednesday evening at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Felician was the first team to score, as Alfonzo Guerrero scored at the 10:11 marker. Assumption responded with authority as Cameron Theriault, Ryan Bogar, and Nolan Sheehan struck with three-straight tallies, giving the Greyhounds a 3-1 lead. After the Golden Falcons scored, cutting the deficit to just one (3-2), the Blue and White answered with goals from Sheehan and Ryan Healey.
 
Leading 5-2 after the opening 15 minutes, the Greyhounds controlled the action in the second, as they outscored Felician 7-0, with goals coming from Brady McNulty, Brayden MacLean (twice), CJ Wiper, Jackson Bulger, Jacob Fahey, and Sheehan found the back of the cage. Through two quarters, Assumption led in the shot department 40-19.
 
Coming out of the intermission, the Greyhounds continued to be aggressive on the offensive end, as Healey opened the third with three-straight goals, making it 15-2. Aidan Rodgers found his way in the goal column before Healey recorded his fifth score of the game. Felician added one more goal, but that was responded with back-to-back goals from Patrik McGrath and Sam Maciel, giving Assumption a 19-3 advantage through 45 minutes.
 
In the fourth, both sides emptied out their benches, but on the scoreboard, both sides scored three goals, making it a 22-6 final score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Colin Malone and Kyle Patriarca combined to record 20 saves in the crease for Assumption. 
  • Assumption outshot their opposition 67-37, while the Golden Falcons won 18-of-32 faceoffs.
