WORCESTER, Mass. – A goal in the five minutes of regulation proves to be the difference, as the Assumption University men's ice hockey team fell to Anna Maria College, 5-3 in non-conference action Tuesday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption opened the scoring in the third minute of action, as
Dara Conneely got the Greyhounds on the board early. Anna Maria answered rapidly, as they struck for three goals in 3:09 of game time.
William Smith added a goal just over the halfway mark of the first period to cut the Greyhounds' deficit to 3-2.
The Greyhounds tied the game in the opening minute of the second period as
Ryan Decker recorded his ninth goal of the year. That would be the only goal in the frame, as Assumption outshot the AMCats 21-14 in the frame.
In the third period, the two teams would trade scoring chances, but nothing would come out of it. Anna Maria eventually broke through, as Matthew Byrne registered his third score of the game with 4:09 showing on the game clock. The AMCats capitalized with the Greyhounds' goalie pulled, as the scored a 190' empty net goal, making it 5-3 visitors.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Drew Benedict recorded 37 saves in the crease for Assumption.
- The Greyhounds outshot the AMCats 50-42, while Anna Maria won 35-of-65 faceoffs.
