Men's Lacrosse Opens NE10 Play with 28-7 win over Franklin Pierce

WORCESTER, Mass. – 19 different Assumption University men's lacrosse players registered a point as the Greyhounds opened Northeast-10 Conference action with a 28-7 win over Franklin Pierce University Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started fast and scored early and often, as Zach Barden opened the scoring a the 10:36 marker. It quickly became all Greyhounds, as the hosts saw goals from Brady McNulty, Nolan Sheehan, Aidan Rodgers, and CJ Wiper to go up 5-0 after 15 minutes.

After Nolan Johnson opened the second period with his first goal of the year, Franklin Pierce struck for a pair of goals, sandwiched by a Sheehan marker at 12:23. Assumption continued to apply the pressure as they struck for five more goals, including a Jacob Fahey buzzer beater with 1.0 showing on the game-clock, sending the hosts up 12-3 into halftime.

Coming out of the intermission, Assumption continued to fill the net as they outscored FPU 10-1 while also outshooting the opposition 21-2. James Grinstead capped off the period with his second goal of the year, sending the Blue and White into the fourth quarter up 22-4. The final frame was merely academic, as Assumption outscored Franklin Pierce 6-3 in the last 15 minutes to pick up a 28-7 NE10 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Colin Malone and Kyle Patriarca combined to record ten saves in the crease for Assumption. 
  • Assumption outshot the hosts 64-24 while also winning 34-of-39 faceoffs.  
  • Nolan Sheehan led all scorers with five goals, while Patrik McGrath recorded six points (two goals, four assists).
  • Nick Polymeros won 17-of-21 of his faceoffs, including 13 groundballs and one goal.
  • The trio of Aidan Boyle, Colby Leighton, and Jack Galvin had six caused turnovers and five ground balls.
  • This was the first time since 2019 that Assumption began NE10 play with a win.
