WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Assumption University baseball team used the longball as they launched three homeruns in a 10-9 11-inning win at Palm Beach Atlantic University Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Palm Beach Atlantic was the first team to cross the plate, putting up a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. The Greyhounds broke through in the top of the third, plating four runs in the frame. Connor Smith was the first visitor to score as he scampered home on a wild pitch.
Jack Barry gave Assumption their first lead as he drove in a pair with a single to left field. After an
Eric Preston RBI single,
Emilio Acosta hit a two-run homerun, giving Assumption a 6-2 lead after four innings.
Eric Giarnese hit a two-run shot in the top of the fifth to push the Greyhounds' lead to 8-2, but the Sailfish answered with an RBI groundout in the bottom half of the fifth.
PBA cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the seventh as they plated a pair on a two-RBI single to right field. After Barry drove in his third run of the game with a single to left field, Palm Beach Atlantic scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings.
After a scoreless 10
th inning,
Christopher Rabias led off the 11
th with a solo homerun, wrapping the shot around the left field foul pole. In the bottom half of the frame, the Sailfish had a one-out double, but they could not score the game-tying run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Alex Meesig picked up the win for Assumption as he tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two strikeouts.
- With three homeruns today, the Greyhounds have now hit 16, leading the Northeast-10 Conference.
- Assumption showed their patiences at the plate, as they drew 12 walks, which is the most since they had 14 against Bloomfield on Feb. 24, 2019.
