HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE - Bentley 14, Assumption 2

It was a tough opening game of the doubleheader for the Greyhounds, as the bats from the Falcons were on fire and exploded for 14 runs. They started early with a two-RBI single to right field through Joe Cacciatore and Tim Zupkus.

In the fifth inning, the home side went off for nine runs, including a two-run homer by Stan DeMartinis and a two-run triple to right center for Jackson Walonis. The score was 12-0 after five innings, and Assumption finally got some offense in the bottom of that inning, as Christopher Rabias had a solo shot and Jake Hamel grounded in a run. Bentley added two more runs in the top of the seventh and closed it out for a 14-2 victory.

GAME TWO – Bentley 5, Assumption 4

Bentley picked things off where they left them in game one, with DeMartinis slamming a three-run homerun in the top of the first. Jared Bernardino answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to 3-1. The Falcons threatened in the top of the fifth, but the Greyhound defense was able to hold them off for the time being. In the bottom of the frame, Assumption got one run back as Berardino reached on a fielding error, allowing Connor Wironen to reach, pushing the score to 3-2 in favor of Bentley.

Bentley bounced back, though, with a single and score of their own in the top of the sixth to add a bit more cushion to the lead at 4-2. Jack Barry attempted a comeback for Assumption, smacking a two-run home run in the bottom of the 7th to try and help pull off the rally, but it was too late, as the Falcons were able to hang on and take game two, 5-4.
