WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team dropped a close affair at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium, as the Greyhounds fell to No. 11 Pace University 20-14 in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday evening.

Records: Greyhounds (2-8, 1-6 NE10), Setters (9-2, 5-2 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pace came out on fire, scoring three goals in the first three minutes on their first five shots.
Sam Maciel got Assumption on the board, but the visitors replied with three more goals to take a 6-1 lead into the second quarter.
The Greyhounds looked to respond better in the second quarter, as
Ryan Healey scored at 6:44 to get Assumption back within four at 8-4. To close out the half, the Setters responded with a 5-1 run to get to halftime up 13-5 at the break. Jake Veres and Daniel Zabbia led for Pace, with four and three goals each.
The third quarter ended up being a close affair, as Pace scored six goals, and the Greyhounds scored four. Assumption ended the 15-minute session by scoring two goals to give them a bit of momentum, scoring through
Jackson Bulger and
Zach Barden to cut the Pace deficit to 19-9 with one quarter left to play.
It was too little too late for the Greyhounds in the fourth quarter, as they outscored the Setters 5-1.
Ryan Healey scored two, while
Aidan Rodgers,
Zach Barden, and
CJ Wiper turned it on late. Despite this late push, the Setters had a large enough lead to run out the game clock and left Worcester with a 20-14 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Colin Malone had eight saves in net for Assumption, while Kyle Patriarca recorded one.
- The Greyhounds outshot the Setters 46-45 but lost the battle on the ground 33-30
- Pace won the transition battle by going 17-of-18 on clear attempts, while Assumption was 14-for-18.
