Baseball Bats Silenced at Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University pitching staff held the Assumption University baseball team to eight base hits, as the Setter take both ends of the non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Peter X. Finnerty Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Pace University 3, Assumption 2
The hosts were the first team to get on the board, as they struck for one run in each of the first and second inning. Cole Durkan drove in the first Greyhounds' run of the day as his single to right field plated Connor Wironen. Jack Barry tied the game for Assumption, as his base knock scored Christopher Rabias from third. Pace responded with an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning, which proved to be the difference in game one.
 
MacGuire O'Sullivan took the loss despite tossing 6.0 innings, striking out three and allowing two earned runs.
 
GAME TWO – Pace University 1, Assumption 0
Pitching and defense would continue to be the story between the two teams heading into game two, as there was only one run scored. The Setters manufactured a run in the bottom of the fourth, as they drew a walk, singles, and had a sac bunt making it second and third with just one out. Pace got the run across with a groundout to third base before the final out of the frame.
 
The Greyhounds could not get the offense going, as they only reached second base twice. Shane Cronin tossed 4.0 innings where he allowed one run and struck out three. Alexander Messig pitched the final two innings where he punched out three and allowed one baserunner.
