WORCESTER, Mass – For the second-straight day, the Assumption University baseball team took game one (7-4) but would eventually fall to Saint Michael's College in the nightcap (6-2) in Northeast-10 Conference action Monday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE - Assumption 7, Saint Michael's 4
Connor Wironen got the scoring started for the Greyhounds as he launched a three-run homerun over the right field fence in the top of the second inning. The Purple Knights got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a balk call, scoring Ulysses Luciano from third. Saint Michael's cut the deficit to one run in the bottom of the fifth as they scored one run on a sacrifice fly to center, but the runner on second was thrown out at the plate 8-9-6-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, Assumption added two insurance runs.
Kevin Cox led off the frame with a double to left field and scored on a throwing error by the SMC pitcher.
Emilio Acosta crossed the plate making it 5-2 on a balk call on the Purple Knights' reliever. Saint Michael's responded in their third straight inning, as they plated one run on a flair to left field, making it 5-3 Assumption.
In the top of the seventh, Acosta doubled the Greyhounds' lead as he hit a two-run homerun to dead centerfield, making it 7-3 Assumption.
Griffin O'Connor picked up the win as he went 6.0 innings, striking out three. Matt Gardner recorded the save, as he got a double play to end the game.
GAME TWO – Saint Michael's 6, Assumption 2
Saint Michael's was the first team to get on the board, as Andrew Lanthier had a leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning and would score two batters later on a wild pitch. The Purple Knights doubled their lead in the second inning, as Anthony Santosuosso tripled to center field, making it 2-0
In the bottom of the third inning Saint Michael's plated three runs, the first one coming on a wild pitch before Evan Balian hit a two-run homerun to right center, extending the SMC advantage to 5-0. Assumption responded in the top of the fourth inning, as
Jared Berardino scored on a sacrifice off the bat of
Jake Hamel.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Purple Knight added an insurance run, as Santosuosso legged out an infield single, scoring the runner from third. Assumption responded with one run in the top of the eighth, as Berardino scored on a throwing error by the SMC catcher, making it 6-2.
In relief,
Shane Cronin pitched 4.0 shutout innings, where he struck out three batters.
