HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team's slow start is too much to overcome, as the Greyhounds fell to Southern New Hampshire University 11-6 in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday evening.
THE BASICS
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 11, Assumption University 6
Records: Greyhounds (2-6, 1-4 NE10), Penmen (2-4, 1-4 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The home team came out of the gate absolutely flying, scoring five straight goals in the first nine minutes of the first quarter. That would be the score after the first, with Southern New Hampshire leading 5-0 with three different goal scorers.
The Greyhounds controlled the second period, scoring the only two goals in that 15-minute stretch to cut the deficit to three at halftime. In that sequence,
Ryan Healey scored his 17th on the season, with
Ryan Bogar adding his fifth.
The game continued to be a back-and-forth affair, with teams scoring goals in bunches to increase their lead while the other side answered to try and cut the advantage. Southern New Hampshire opened the second half with two more goals from Tristan Pietz and Cody Fleming, whereas Assumption responded shortly after with two goals from
Zach Barden.
The fourth is where the game got taken away by the home side, as they scored four more to pull away and secure the victory.
Zach Barden and
Jackson Bulger had goals of their own for the Greyhounds, but the Penmen controlled the majority of the contest to hold on for an 11-6 win.
