WORCESTER, Mass. - This weekend, the Greyhounds finished their first full season in three years as they competed in the New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.
The young Greyhounds rowed in the second heat of the women's varsity eights, facing off against five nationally ranked Division III teams in the seven-boat field. With a brisk tailwind, the team posted their fastest time of the season, completing the 2000-meter course in 8:02.5. The heat was won by Tufts University, followed by Bates College, Wesleyan University, Coast Guard, Clark University, Mount Holyoke College, and then Assumption.Â
Later in the day, the team rowed in the fourth final against Simmons College, where the Sharks pulled away at the halfway mark, finishing in a time of 7:47 with Assumption coming in at 8:03, just a second away from their best time of the season. Â
Bella Baker coxed the crew with
Bella Perryman in the stroke seat, followed by
Olivia Shan, Katie Ickes, Izzy Anzalone,
Nicole St. Germaine,
Brianna Rawlston,
Hannah Pennings, and
Carly Duval sitting bow.Â
"I am immensely proud of this group. In a difficult rebuilding year, they pulled together and showed weekly improvement," said David Deiuliis, Women's Rowing Coach. "Every week, we faced off against more experienced crews, and we put up a good fight and got better every week. We never let the results affect our morale and focused on getting faster. I'm excited to see what we can do next year."Â
The Greyhounds are back in action next weekend when they complete their spring season at New England Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond. Â
