WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 6 nationally ranked Assumption University field hockey team dropped their season opener to No. 3 West Chester University Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
West Chester started the scoring in the opening quarter, as Jasmine Miller scored off the feed from Paige Wolfe. The Rams doubled their lead in the opening minute of the second quarter as Claudia Jaszczak found the back of the cage. Jaszczak made it 3-0 West Chester with her second of the game in the 25
th minute.
WCU continued to apply the pressure on the Greyhounds' defense as they tacked on two more scores in the third quarter. Assumption would eventually get on the board with under six minutes remaining in regulation, as
Caroline McSweeney tipped in the back door shot from
Daisy Stone. Ella Shockley capped off the scoring as she capitalized on a penalty corner with 5.1 seconds showing on the clock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Paige Gillette recorded 11 saves for Assumption.
- The Rams outshot the Greyhounds 23-10 while maintaining an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners.
