Field Hockey dropped decision to Shippensburg

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Assumption University field hockey falls 6-1 in a difficult outing against No. 2 Shippensburg University, Sunday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium
 
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED
Shippensburg applied pressure on the Greyhounds from the opening whistle. After trading fouls for the first two minutes of the game, the Raiders opened the scoring at 2:54 with a goal by Taryn Mayer, who capitalized off of a rebound shot. Assumption defended a barrage of shots from the Raiders for several minutes following the opening goal, ultimately conceding their second goal four minutes later. After back-and-forth action, Callie Beauparlant got the Greyhounds on the board, as she scored with one minute remaining in the first quarter.
 
Shippensburg responded quickly in the second quarter scoring twice in the first five minutes. Assumption tightened up their defense only allowing one shot attempt by the Raiders for the remainder of the quarter. The Hounds trailed the Raiders 4-1 at halftime.
 
Assumption came storming out after the break with two early attempts by Elle Murray and Lily Daly. The third quarter was full of defense from both sides, as each team was rendered scoreless in the third quarter.
 
The visitors would regain their play from the first half scoring twice in the fourth quarter. Assumption was unable to find an answer as they were defeated 6-1
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Paige Gillette recorded 16 saves for the Greyhounds.
  • Callie Beauparlant logged her first goal of the year, with her marker at the end of the first quarter.
  • The Greyhounds were outshot by the Raiders 30-7, while the visitor had 14 corners to Assumption's one.
  • Shippensburg is now 2-0 all-time against the Greyhounds.
