SPARKILL, N.Y.– The Assumption University women's volleyball team has their best start since 2012 at 3-0, with another 3-0 victory on the road against St Thomas Aquinas on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans came out with some energy, jumping to a 5-2 lead. The Spartan lead grew to 11-6, with a kill from Natassia Romanoff. Assumption then went on an eight-point run to bring it back to 13-12, with
Alexis Distasio picking up a service ace. It was back and forth for the rest of the set, with Assumption taking it 25-22.
The second set again started with the points going back and forth, with
Sophia Kane's block giving Assumption a 7-5 lead. Assumption began to cruise at 13-10, scoring four straight points with multiple kills by Distasio to lead 17-10. Despite some pressure being applied by the Spartans, the Hounds held out for a 25-16 win on the second set, ending on a
Marissa Krawczyk.
In the third set, Assumption got on the front foot again with a 10-6 lead through
Sophia Kane, who got a big kill and then forced an attacking error from the home side. Assumption then went up to a lead of 17-11 with
Anna Dean getting a kill, and from then on, it was smooth sailing.
Sophia Kane ended the match on a service ace, and the Hounds won 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- This is the Assumption Women's Volleyball team's best start since 2012 (3-0)
- Dean led the team with 12 kills, while Distasio had ten.
- Tatiana Calderin had 17 assists on the day as well.
- This was the first-ever meeting between STAC and Assumption.
