Field Hockey continues to roll, as they bested Mercy, 6-0

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Assumption University field hockey team saw their offense explode, as the Greyhounds defeated Mercy University in Northeast-10 Conference action, 6-0 Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED  
 
Assumption started on the front foot, with Elle Murray's shot coming close about seven minutes in, but it was saved and led to a corner. Assumption closely controlled the first quarter, as they had more influence on the game's flow and pace of play. Mia Salah got close again with five minutes left, but it was shut out. Murray capitalized on a Caroline McSweeney pass and put the Hounds in front 1-0 with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter. At the break, Assumption would hold a 1-0 lead. 
 
The second quarter started slower, as the Hounds looked to double their lead, and the Mavericks worked to tie it up. Murray almost got her second, with her shot being saved low by Alexandrea Giordano with 8:30 minutes remaining in the half. Just moments later, Lily Daly doubled the lead and got her fourth of the season with 7:39 remaining. Right before the break, Salah got her goal to make it 3-0, the score at the half. 
 
In the third quarter, Salah got her second in the game with an assist from Chloe Kaeller. Assumption continued to apply the pressure in the quarter, as they forced more corners and had more shots than the Mavericks. Julia Carbone got on the score sheet with less than three minutes remaining in the quarter from another McSweeney assist. Marta Brzoska got in on the action in the fourth with an assist from Khianna Jackson. Assumption controlled the contest and improved their record to 4-4. 
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Assumption has now won their third straight NE10 contest, as they outscored their opponents 18-0.
  • The Greyhounds stuffed the stat sheet, outshooting the Mavericks 35-5 with 24 on goal and three on goal for the home side.
  • Giordano made 16 saves for Mercy, while Paige Gillette had three.
  • Assumption now leads the all-time series 8-0
