Field Hockey overpowers New Haven in NE10 action, 5-1

WORCESTER, Mass - The Assumption University field hockey team controlled the action from the opening whistle against the University of New Haven as they took down the Chargers in Northeast-10 Conference action 5-1 at Brian Kelly Stadium Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS:

Score: Assumption University 5, University of New Haven 1

Records: Greyhounds (5-4, 4-0 NE10), Chargers (2-6, 2-3 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first quarter of play was controlled by Assumption, while May van Woudenberg got the scoring going with a shot off of a corner with an assist from Lily Daly. Less than two minutes later, Elle Murray got a good shot off, but Hallie Reiger saved it. With less than five minutes to play, Caroline McSweeney scored to put Assumption up 2-0 with an assist from Mia Salah. For the rest of the quarter, the Hounds controlled possession.

The first half was all Assumption when Lily Daly added a third, with Salah adding an assist to her already impressive performance. The rest of the second quarter did not consist of too much action, with neither team being able to control the possessions. At the half, Assumption held a 3-0. The third quarter was a bit slower, as both teams had spells of possession, but not much came out of it, bar a couple of chances from the Hounds. The Greyhounds had a big chance on a corner, but Reiger sniffed it out. McSweeney got her second on the night with about three minutes remaining as the lead expanded to four.

The fourth quarter saw the Chargers get their only goal on the evening just for Assumption to answer right back, with Marta Brzoska getting in on the action and Salah getting another assist.
