WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team scored five unanswered goals as they completed the weekend sweep of Southern New Hampshire University following a 5-1 result on Saturday evening.
THE BASICS
Score: Assumption University 5, Southern New Hampshire 1
Records: Greyhounds (15-3-0, 10-1 NE10), Penmen (5-9-2, 3-6-1 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern New Hampshire was the first team to get on the scoreboard, as Matt Amante opened the scoring at 17:27 of the first period. The Penmen would carry the 1-0 lead into the intermission despite being outshot 17-10 through 20 minutes.
The Greyhounds dominated the second period, as they struck for three goals.
Jimmy McDermott opened the scoring at 2:03 before
Jonathan Surrette gave Assumption their first lead of the game after he scored at 9:33.
Leo Piandes capped off the scoring in the middle frame with his tally at 13:34 on the powerplay.
In the third period,
Ronny Paragallo scored a short-handed goal at 2:28, as he forced a turnover in the offensive end.
Nathan Palumbo finished off the scoring at 5:20, pushing the final score to 5-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Callum Welch logged 31 saves for the win for the Greyhounds.
- Assumption outshot SNHU 60-32, while the Penmen had a slight advantage in the faceoff circle (35-of-69)
- The Greyhounds went 1-for-5 on the man-advantage, while the visitors were 0-for-5.
- With two points tonight, Ronny Paragallo extended his point streak to nine games. He scored 11 goals and five assists over that span.
- Assumption has now tied the all-time series, 39-39-2.
