WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team scored three third-period goals to secure a weekend sweep of Franklin Pierce University following a 5-2 Northeast-10 Conference win Saturday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption opened the scoring halfway through the first period, as
Sean Corliss netted his third goal of the season from
Leo Piandes and
Ronny Paragallo. Franklin Pierce answered with 2:18 showing on the clock as Trevor Lawler got on the board.
The Greyhounds opened the second period by killing a 5-on-3 powerplay before regaining a lead on
Dara Conneely's tally at 11:43. The Ravens would capitalize on their second 5-on-3 man-advantage, as Tyson Springer struck with 5:06 showing on the middle period clock.
The two teams would head into the final 20 minutes tied at 2-2, but despite being outshot 31-12 but only 16-12 on target, the Greyhounds broke the tie with
Jake Lavoie's fifth goal of the year at 5:37. The Assumption weathered the Ravens' assault by taking a two-goal advantage with a goal from
Shane Sullivan at 13:01.
William Roberts added an empty net score with 1:01 on the clock to seal the 5-2 win for Assumption.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Thomas McLarnon recorded 47 saves to pick up the win.
- Franklin Pierce outshot Assumption 49-42, while the hosts won 37 of 69 faceoffs.
- The Ravens were the only team to score on the man advantage, with both sides having six powerplays.
- Assumption now leads the all-time series 33-20-1.
