Women's Basketball used a balanced attack to topple Southern Connecticut, 74-68

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University women's basketball team picked up a 74-68 Northeast-10 Conference road win on Saturday afternoon after topping Southern Connecticut State University in James Moore Field House.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first quarter, both offenses were shooting over 60 percent from the field. The Greyhounds were paced by Marina Callahan, who poured in eight points in the opening ten minutes. The Assumption lead was pushed out to eight points (18-10) with 3:21 remaining in the first; Southern Connecticut would cut the deficit to six points by the end of the quarter (21-15). The Owls closed the gap in the second quarter, as they outscored the Greyhounds 14-9 in the frame; despite a poor shooting quarter, Assumption carried a 30-29 lead into the break.

The Greyhounds bounced back after halftime, as they shot 7-for-15 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. Molly Stoke paced Assumption in the quarter, as she recorded eight points, while Kajihe Hall and Amanda Mieczkowski added three points each.

Assumption opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run led by baskets by Emma Dahl, Hall, and Molly Stokes, pushing the visitor's lead to 55-43. In the fourth quarter, the Owls made a late run, but the Greyhounds went 13-for-17 from the charity stripe to secure a 74-68 Northeast-10 Conference road win in New Haven.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Marina Callahan led four Greyhounds in double-digits with 17 points while adding seven rebounds and two assists. Molly Stokes (16), Kajihe Hall (13), and Emma Dahl (11) all recorded double-digit points.
  • Assumption outrebounded Southern Connecticut 27-23, while the Greyhounds outscored the Owls 15-0 in fastbreak points.
