NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 24 nationally-ranked Assumption University women's basketball team pushed their winning streak to eight games, as the Greyhounds recorded a 70-60 Northeast-10 Conference win at the University of New Haven Tuesday evening.
THE BASICS
Score: Assumption University 70, University of New Haven 60
Records: Greyhounds (16-3, 11-3 NE10), Chargers (6-12, 2-12 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption's offense got going early, with lots of action out the gate from
Emma Dahl and
Teagan Curran, who both knocked down three-pointers in the early action. Despite going down 7-2, Assumption stormed to lead 21-17, closing the quarter on a 19-10 run behind their offense. The second quarter was more of the same, but Assumption really stamped their force on defense, only allowing nine points across ten minutes. During that defensive stand, the Hounds added 22 points, capitalized by a
Molly Stokes layup to lead 43-28 at halftime.
The Chargers battled in the third quarter to try and close the gap. However, they were already trailing by double digits at halftime, and the strong opening-half performance only got them within 13. New Haven outscored Assumption 15-13 in the third. However, the Hounds closed the fourth with enough room to claim a typical conference win as they defeated the Chargers 70-60.
