No. 7 Field Hockey Uses Second-Half Surge to Defeat New Haven, 5-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The No. 7 nationally-ranked Assumption University field hockey team scored four-second half goals to record a 5-0 Northeast-10 Conference win at the University of New Haven, Tuesday evening at Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium.

THE BASICS
Score: Assumption University 5, University of New Haven 0
Records: Greyhounds (6-3, 4-0 NE10) | Chargers (3-6, 2-2 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption got on the board late in the first quarter, as Daisy Stone brought the ball into the circle before being dispossessed by a New Haven defender; Julie Carbone collected the loose ball and fired it into the back of the cage with a backhanded shot. The Greyhounds controlled most of the frame, outshooting the Chargers 7-4 and having seven corners to just two for the hosts. After a scoreless second, the Hounds would carry a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Blue and White would maintain possession for most of the third, but they could not break through. It was scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the frame, but the Greyhounds struck for two goals in the final two minutes. Taylor Tory scored off a corner before Chloe Kaeller found the back of the cage off of a rebound shot as time expired. The Greyhounds carried the scoring into the fourth, as Marta Brzoska tapped in the cross-circle pass from Carbone, making it 4-0.  Brzoska added her second goal in three minutes as she received a pass from Kaeller in the midfield, and she used her speed to split two defenders and score.
