Field Hockey Tops Saint Anselm 3-0, Capturing Their Second NE10 Championship

WORCESTER, Mass.—Elle Murray scored a pair of goals, while Mia Salah scored the third, as the top-seeded Assumption University field hockey team captured their second Northeast-10 Conference Postseason Championship, following a 3-0 win against the No. 3 seed Saint Anselm College, Sunday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

THE BASICS:
Score: No 1. Assumption University 3, No. 3 Saint Anselm College 0
Records: Greyhounds (18-3, 13-0 NE10), Hawks (15-7, 10-3 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a scoreless first period that saw Assumption control most of the play in the offense zone, they outshot Saint Anselm 3-1 in the frame. The Hawks gained momentum in the second, but the Hounds would be the first team to get on the board, as Elle Murray found the back of the cage 4:28 into the second period. Saint Anselm goalie Sidney Falterer kicked out a bouncing shot from outside the circle, but Daisy Stone corralled the rebound before slipping it to the far post, where Murray would tap in the game's first goal. The Greyhounds would carry that 1-0 lead into the second half, with Assumption's netminder, Paige Gillette, recorded a trio of saves in the frame.

The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the Greyhounds until the final eight minutes of the game, but Mia Salah would capitalize on a rebound off of a Callie Beauparlant shot and flipped it over the sprawled-out Hawks keeper, pushing the lead to 2-0. With 1:44 showing on the game clock, Murray was awarded a penalty stroke, and she capitalized by beating Falterer to the top left corner of the cage, expanding the Assumption lead to 3-0. The Greyhounds would kill the clock and capture their second NE10 title in four seasons.
