MANCHESTER, NH – The Assumption University men's ice hockey team completed the weekend sweep of Saint Anselm, as the Greyhounds saw three different goal scorers in a 3-2 Northeast-10 Conference win Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
Score: Assumption University 3, Saint Anselm College 2
Records: Greyhounds (6-3-0, 6-0-0 NE10) | Hawks (5-4-1, 4-3-0 NE10)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Jonathan Surrette put Assumption on the scoreboard first, as the sophomore picked off a clearing attempt and scored with a backhanded shot while shorthanded at 5:30 of the first period. Saint Anselm tied the game in the second period, as Michael Martignetti scored at the 7:06 mark. The Greyhounds would have an excellent opportunity to score, as they were credited with a 5-on-3 late into the period, but Hawks' netminder Cam Carroll made a few vital saves to keep the game tied at 1-1.
The Greyhounds regained the lead early into the third period as
Jake DiNapoli played the puck off the Hawks' netminder to put Assumption back on top.
Dean Simeone added an insurance goal off of a failed clearing attempt by Saint Anselm's goalie, as
Nathan Palumbo forced the turnover before passing it to a streaking Simeone, who put it into the empty net. The Hawks added a power-play goal late, but it would not be enough, as the Greyhounds came away with a 3-2 road win.
