WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University men's ice hockey team beat Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 Conference 5-4 slugfest featuring six goals in the final period.

THE BASICS:
Score: Assumption University 5, Southern New Hampshire University, 4
Records: Greyhounds (2-2-0, 2-0-0 NE10), Penmen (1-2-0, 0-2-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Two penalties stacked on top of each other in the first period gave the Greyhounds a 5-3 advantage, which they quickly capitalized on. Patrick McKiernan buried a one-timer off a pass from Jonathan Surrette. Just as the subsequent penalty expired, captain and reigning NE10 Player of the Year Ronny Paragallo scored an even-strength goal for his first goal of the season. Assumption kept the 2-0 lead into the first intermission. 

Southern New Hampshire came back on the ice on a mission. They scored two minutes into the period, whittling the Assumption lead to a single goal. 

The third period is where things took off. Jack Gray tied the game at 2-2 with a powerplay goal for the Penmen. The Greyhounds barked back with three goals in four minutes. Jake DiNapoli scored first, Paragallo scored his second of the afternoon, and Dean Simeone finally found the back of the net for the second straight game. 

Leading 5-2, with 11 minutes remaining in regulation, Assumption felt in control for just long enough to catch their breath. The Penmen's Kurt Watson scored 34 seconds after Simeone's goal, making it 5-3. The Blue and White defense held firm until the Penmen pulled the goalie, and Watson scored again with the extra skater advantage and just 26 stressful seconds left on the clock. Thomas McLarnon saved the final two shots, and Assumption held on for the 5-4 win.

BY THE NUMBERS: 

• The Hounds outshot the Penmen 44-41.
• McLarnon made 37 saves for a .902 save percentage.
• Paragallo scored two goals and added an assist.
• Leo Pindes led Assumption with a +2 rating and assisted Paragallo's first goal.
• Assumption leads the all-time series against SNHU 42-40-5.
