WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University men's ice hockey team heads into the winter break on a four-game skid, as the Greyhounds could not complete the comeback against Westfield State University, falling 4-3 in non-conference action Thursday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Westfield State was the first team to get on the scoreboard, as Christopher Miraldo found the back of the cage for the visitors. Two minutes later,
Patrick McKiernan tied the game for Assumption as his shot from the point found its way through the traffic and went in. The Owls would strike twice in the frame to go up 3-1 after 20 minutes.
The guests added to their lead in the second period as Brett Williams potted an unassisted score halfway through the frame, giving Westfield a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. In the final frame, the Hounds came out firing, as they outshot the opposition 28-4.
Declan Chapman found the back of the net at the 8:03 mark of the frame, cutting the deficit to 4-2. With just over a minute remaining in regulation,
Jonathan Surrette got Assumption within one as he connected on the power play. Despite extensive offensive zone time, the Greyhounds could not find the equalizer and would fall to Westfield 4-3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Callum Welch and Michael Hauswirth combined to record 27 saves for the Greyhounds.
- Assumption won 43-of-71 faceoffs while outshooting the Owls 60-31.
- Nathan Palumbo won 11-of-15 of his faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds were the only team to score on the powerplay, as they went 1-for-3, while the Owls were scoreless on two chances.
- Westfield now leads the all-time series 8-6-1.
