EAST MEADOW, N.Y.— The Assumption University men's ice hockey team opened the second half of their schedule with a 10-1 loss to Division I Long Island University Friday afternoon a the Northwell Health Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Long Island University was the first team to get on the board, as Chad Mueller put in a rebound from an Anthony Lucarelli faceoff shot at 8:09 of the opening frame. Sixten Jennersjö doubled the lead for the Sharks two minutes later, as he scored following a stretch pass through the neutral zone and beat the Assumption netminder through the five-hole. Despite surrendering a pair of goals,
Thomas McLarnon logged 20 saves in the opening frame.
In the second period, LIU added two goals, once at the 9:09 mark, while the other scored two minutes later to go up 4-0. Assumption got on the board at the 14:26 mark, as
John Woernle potted his first goal of the year, as Sean Donahue and
Thomas McGaffigan recorded assists on the tally.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Thomas McLarnon recorded a season-high 53 saves.
- LIU outshot Assumption 63-14, while also winning 45-of-69 faceoffs.
- The Sharks went 2-of-4 on the powerplay, while the Greyhounds would not receive a power play.
- LIU now leads the all-time series 3-0-0.
