ORANGEBURG, NY - The Assumption University women's basketball team saw a career-high 17 points by
Grace Leary as the Greyhounds defeated the Dominican University of New York Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
THE BASICS:

Records: Greyhounds (8-2, 2-1 NE10), Dominican (9-3, 2-0 CACC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the early portion of the first quarter, Dominican saw their shots fall, while Assumptions did not, as the host ran out to a 10-4 lead by the 4:21 mark. The Chargers' lead would grow to as large as nine points (16-7), but the Greyhounds would close the frame on a 7-3 run, with
Maeve Moriarty pouring in five points to end the first frame, trailing 19-14.
The Hounds ratcheted their defense and started to see some shots fall in the second quarter, holding the Chargers to 3-of-12 from the floor.
Emma Dahl went 3-for-3 in the quarter, leading the charge for Assumption. This gave the Greyhounds a three-point lead (30-27) entering the intermission.
In the third quarter, both sides saw their offense come alive, as Assumption shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field, while Dominican was 8-of-18 (44.4 percent). The Hounds saw six players record a point in the frame, led by
Grace Leary, who went 5-for-5 from the field, including a layup as time expired in the quarter, giving Assumption their largest lead (eight, 56-48).
In the final frame, the Chargers slowly chipped away at the deficit and tied the game at 60-60, following a three-point play by Tamia Nunes with 2:45 left in regulation.
Marina Callahan answered back for the Hounds, as she converted on two layups, giving the Greyhounds a 64-60 lead with 1:09 remaining. Dominican hit two free throws to get within one possession in the final minute, but the hosts would miss two straight shots in the final 11 seconds, and Assumption would hold on for a 64-62 road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Grace Leary led all scorers with 17 points, while Maeve Moriarty recorded a career-high 11.
- Dominican won the rebounding battle 36-35, while Assumption outscored the hosts 36-6 with bench points.
- The Greyhounds are now 12-1 against the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference since the 2022-23 season.
- Assumption leads the all-time series, 9-0
