GARDEN CITY, NY – Led by a milestone night by
Marina Callahan, the Assumption University women's basketball team came away with a 54-50 Northeast-10 Conference win at Adelphi University on Wednesday evening.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Marina Callahan started fast for the Assumption team, scoring the first seven points for the Hounds. After back-to-back baskets from
Emma Dahl and Kajihe Hall, Adelphi battled back to tie the game at 11-11. The Greyhounds responded as they outscored the Panthers 6-0 down for the remainder of the first quarter, with Callahan and
Maeve Moriarty finding the bottom of the twine.
After Adelphi scored the opening bucket of the second quarter, Hall converted on back-to-back layups, giving the Hounds an eight-point advantage (21-13). The hosts would slowly chip away at the deficit and get within four (21-17) with 4:09 remaining in the frame, but the Greyhounds would explode for a 7-0 run to go up 28-17 in a matter of 1:06 of game action. Neither team would score over the final 2:52, as Assumption would head into halftime up 28-17.
The Panthers chipped away at the 11-point deficit coming out of the intermission and would take their first lead since 2-0 in the game's opening possession following a three-pointer by Kaitlyn O'Connell with 32 seconds left in the frame (35-34). The fourth quarter was full of momentum swings, with seven lead changes and two ties, while both sides held five-point advantages. The Greyhounds came out on top, thanks to nine points from
Marina Callahan going four-of-five from the field, which included the would-be game-winning jumper with 1:18 remaining in regulations. She also added three assists, two rebounds, a block, and a steal in the frame, leading Assumption to a 54-50 road win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Marina Callahan filled the stat sheet as she poured in a game-high 23 points while pulling down eight rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block.
- Kajihe Hall added 13 points, while Maeve Moriarty chipped in eight off the bench.
- Assumption outrebounded Adelphi 38-21 while pulling down 14 offensive boards compared to just three for the hosts.
- The Hounds assisted on 18 of 22 baskets on the evening, with Antonia Panayides and Callahan recording five helpers apiece.
- The Panthers shot 41.6 percent from the floor, while the Greyhounds were 40.0 from the field.
- With her three-pointer in the fourth quarter, Callahan became the 26th member of the Assumption University women's basketball program to surpass 1,000 career points.
- The Hounds now leads the all-time series, 8-5
