WORCESTER, Mass.—The Assumption University women's basketball team used a 39-point second half to close 2024 with a 69-51 non-conference win over Georgian Court University Sunday afternoon in Laska Gymnasium. 

THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
Assumption started fast, as Marina Callahan and Molly Stokes had wide-open layups in the opening minute. Georgian Court eventually got their offense going. The teams would trade buckets for the remainder of the opening quarter, where the Greyhounds would carry a 14-13 lead into the second quarter. 
 
Following a Lions' basket to open the second quarter, the Hounds would go on a 12-0 run lasting over four minutes. Callahan led the charge, as the hosts would go 6-of-7 from the field while holding Georgian Court to just two shots and forcing six turnovers. The Lions responded with a 7-4 burst to close out the half, with Assumption leading 30-24. 
 
Coming out of the intermission, Karissa Smedley made a layup to open the frame, but the Greyhounds went 3-for-3 from the field and hit 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to go up 41-26. Assumption held Georgian Court without a shot for nearly two minutes during that stretch. The Lions tried to chip away at the deficit for the remainder of the frame, but they could only cut it to a 13-point margin (49-36), heading to the final quarter. Both teams traded baskets in the fourth, with Assumption able to add to their lead and cruise to a 69-51 home win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Marina Callahan led all scorers with 18 points, adding six rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals. 
• Kaijhe Hall (15) and Molly Stokes (12) surpassed the double-digit points. 
• Georgian Court outrebounded Assumption 33-24, while the Greyhounds forced 31 turnovers, leading to 35 points. 
• Hall tied her career-high with four blocks, leading the Hounds, who had seven as a team. 
• Before the game, the Assumption Athletic Department honored Molly Stokes and Marina Callahan, who joined the 1,000-point club. 
• Assumption leads the all-time series 6-1
