DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team came up short in the season opener, as the Greyhounds fell to No. 8/10 Mercy University, 19-10 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Score: No. 8/10 Mercy University 19, Assumption University 10
Records: Greyhounds (0-1, 0-0 NE10), Mavericks (2-0, 0-0 ECC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercy started on the front foot, ripping off the first three goals by Christopher Bergerse, Shane Roche, and Brody Caskenette. The Hounds responded a couple of minutes later with a pair of their own by Jackson Bulger on the man-up and Nick Polymeros just 13 seconds later. To close the quarter, Andrew Calabria scored with 45 seconds remaining to put the Mavericks up 4-2 after one.

Mercy would add goals again from Calabria and Bergerse, while Sam Maciel got on the board for his first on the year. Following that Maciel goal, the Mavericks would score three out of the next four, putting a stranglehold on the game. Colby Leighton added the other goal in the second quarter with 7:53 to go until halftime. At the break, Mercy could lead Assumption 9-4.

The third quarter had ten goals total, with the Mavericks adding six and the Hounds adding four. The goal scorers for the Hounds in this action included Brady McNulty, Ryan Healey, Nolan Johnson, and Ryan Bogar.

The Hounds found areas to score but could not prevent the Mavericks from ripping off multiple goals in a row, allowing the home side to run away.
