Men's Lacrosse rallies past Roberts Wesleyan, 15-12, in their home opener

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team outscored Roberts Wesleyan University 6-1 in the fourth quarter, as they rallied for a 15-12 win in their home opener at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was an energetic start from both sides, as each team scored three goals in the first six minutes to open up play. The visitors opened it up through Matt Walsh, while the Hounds answered just about a minute later with Sam Maciel. Aidan Rodgers gave the Hounds a brief lead before the Redhawks tied it with Gunner MacMillan. It was back and forth for the whole quarter; however, the Redhawks would cool off the Hounds for the final two minutes. The Hounds would go scoreless for the last 9:24 of the first and trail 6-4 after one.
 
The second quarter did not generate as many goals as the first, but more chances were still created. Assumption outscored the Redhawks 2-1 and trailed 7-6 at halftime. Brady McNulty and Patrick McGrath scored in the period, while Jacob Zimmerman added one before the break.
 
In the third quarter, the visitors scored two goals out of the gate before the Hounds scored three goals to tie it up through Sam Maciel, Colby Bailey-Gates, and Ryan Healey. After the third quarter, the Redhawks led 11-9. The fourth quarter was all Assumption, as they outscored the Redhawks 6-1 to defeat Roberts Wesleyan 15-12. McNulty, Healey, Maciel, Nick Polymeros, and Nolan Johnson scored for the home side in the final quarter.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Colin Malone recorded 16 saves in the crease for the Greyhounds.
  • Sam Maciel led Assumption with four goals, while Aidan Rodgers, Ryan Healey, and Brady McNulty had two goals.
  • The two teams split the 30 faceoffs, while Assumption was 3-of-7 on extra-man opportunities, while the Redhawks were 1-for-6.
