Men's Lacrosse races past Caldwell, 24-6

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team used a balanced attack as they recorded a 24-6 win over Caldwell University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption got on top early, leading 3-0 within a span of 3:36 minutes. It was a long stretch without much action until Ryan Healey got on the board with 2:56. Bulger added two more goals before the first quarter ended, as the Hounds led 6-0 after one. Other scorers in the quarter were Cameron Theriault and Colby Bailey-Gates.
 
Theriault and Jack Galvin got action early in the second, as well as Nolan Johnson at 13:05 remaining. Zakkery Glatfleter scored the first goal for the Cougars, but a flurry of Assumption goals quickly responded to it. At the break, Assumption led 12-3. 
 
The third quarter was all Assumption, as the Hounds didn't allow a single goal from the Cougars and scored ten of their own. The last 15 minutes was the closest of the day, with the Cougars edging it 3-2. JD Frey opened the scoring, with Owen Tarnowski and Jason Staudt adding two within 40 seconds of each other. Adam Gilbert had the game's last goal for the Hounds, with Staudt adding one more with 20 seconds remaining. Assumption used a massive third quarter to defeat Caldwell 24-6.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Colin Malone and James Lopes combined to record ten saves in the crease for the Greyhounds.
  • Jackson Bulger led all scorers with four goals, while Patrik McGrath had six points, three goals, and three assists. 
  • 16 Greyhounds recorded a point, as eight had more than one. 
  • Assumption won 23 of 34 faceoffs, with Nick Polymeros winning 21 of 24 with 15 ground balls. 
  • The Greyhounds went a perfect 30-for-30 on clears, while the Cougars were 26-of-33. 
  • This is the first meeting between the two teams; Assumption now leads the all-time series 1-0.
