LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team erases a four-goal deficit to rally and defeat Georgian Court University 12-11 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at the GCU Track & Field Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption started fast as
Cameron Theriault and
Jackson Bulger scored in the opening two minutes of action. Georgian Court responded with the final three goals of the first quarter to head into the break, up 3-2.
In the second quarter, the two teams traded the first four goals, but the Lions would score the final two goals to go up 7-4 through 30 minutes of action. The Greyhounds carried the majority of the action, as they won nine of the 12 faceoffs, but they had nine turnovers in the first half, compared to just three for the hosts.
After Georgian Court opened the second half with a goal three minutes in, the Greyhounds scored four goals over the next three minutes of action with
Colby Bailey-Gates,
Cameron Theriault,
Brian Shortt, and
Sam Maciel all finding the back of the net to force a timeout by the hosts. Coming out of the quick break,
Nolan Johnson regained the lead for Assumption, with his goal at 7:46. Assumption closed out the quarter strong, as Theriault and Maciel pushed the visitors lead to 11-8.
In the fourth, the two teams traded the first two goals, but with 8:18 remaining in regulation James Sanford cut the deficit to two. The game would stay 12-10 until 1:04 when Doug Mackenzie got the Lions within one with a man-up goal. Georgian Court would win the ensuing faceoff, but would only get one shot off, which was saved by
Colin Malone with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to secure the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Colin Malone recorded 11 saves for the Greyhounds.
- Cameron Theriault led the way with four goals, while Sam Maciel and Jackson Bulger netted a pair.
- Assumption won 18 of 26 faceoffs while having 20-of-22 successful clears. Georgian Court was 26-of-29 on clear attempts.
- The Greyhounds are 3-1 to begin the year for the first time since the 2018 campaign when they started 4-1.
- Assumption now leads the all-time series 2-1.
