HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Assumption University 12, Queens College 8
Assumption started fast as they raced out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, as
Christopher Rabias,
Cody Smith, and
Christopher Manzo all went deep for the Greyhounds. After Queens responded in the bottom of the first, Smith doubled home Rabias, extending the Assumption lead to 6-1. The Knights would not go quietly, as they plated four runs in the bottom of the second and would tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the third with a Phil Krpata single to right field.
The game remained tied until the top of the fifth inning when Rabias went deep for the second time on the day. Manzo pushed the Assumption lead to 8-6, driving in
Jack Barry with a single to left field. Queens cut the deficit back to one run as Jorsixt Jimenez hit a solo home run to left field. That was the lone run of the frame, as
Ryan Cloutier left the bases loaded.
GAME TWO – Queens College 14, Assumption University 3
Unlike game one, the nightcap had to wait until the fourth inning to see any runs.
Matthew Holbrook got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard as he drove in with an RBI single through the right side of the infield. The Knights responded in the bottom half of the frame, as they plated seven runs.
Assumption scored its second run of the game when
Jack Barry beat out a fielder's choice, scoring
Owen Podolec on the play. Once again, Queens College answered with a crooked number, striking for five runs in the inning. The Greyhounds continued to chip away at the deficit as Podolec drove in Holbrook with an RBI single to right field in the top of the sixth inning. The Knights capped off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth, as they plated two more runs to bring the final score to 14-3.
