NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Assumption University baseball team could not overcome the late rally by Southern Connecticut State University, as they would fall 5-4 in a non-conference matchup at the Ballpark at SCSU on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Southern Connecticut struck first, plating one run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning to go up 1-0. The Greyhounds responded in the top of the second, as
Max Lefrancois' flair single to center plated
Jamison Howland on the play. After a scoreless bottom of the second, the Assumption offense had a great chance to take the lead. They loaded the bases with no one out in the frame but could not push a run across.
The Owls regained a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth, plating another run via a sacrifice fly. The game would remain 2-1 in favor of the hosts until the top of the seventh inning, where the Greyhounds scored two runs and
Owen Podolec and
Jack Barry scored. Assumption pushed their lead to 4-2 in the top of the eighth innings as
Patrick McManus came around to score on a Podolec fielder's choice.
Southern Connecticut rallied in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs in the frame, they had a bases-clearing double to take a 5-4 lead. The Greyhounds threatened in the top of the ninth, as they got a runner to third base with just one out in the frame, but they could not scratch the run across and would fall to SCSU 5-4.
Michael Crowley got the start for Assumption, as the southpaw went 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and allowed just one earned run.
