Malone and Company down SNHU in NE10 action, 11-6

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team held Southern New Hampshire University to a season-low six goals as the Greyhounds downed the Penmen 11-6 in Northeast-10 Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first period was quiet, with only one goal scored. Cody Fleming opened the game for the visiting Penman, who led 1-0 after the first. The Hounds went down by two early in the second quarter but finished strongly to end the half, leading 3-2 at the break. Ryan Healey, Brady McNulty, and Patrik McGrath got on the scoresheet for Assumption before the halftime stoppage.
 
The Hounds continued their momentum in the second half, scoring the first three goals of the third period. Across three minutes, Jackson Bulger and Cameron Theriault would get their firsts on the game, and Healey bagged another. The Penmen scored two before the quarter ended to make the fourth quarter a close one, 6-4, in favor of the Hounds. 
 
Assumption controlled the game by scoring goals in bunches, again opening the fourth with three-straight goals to open the game up 9-4 with 9:48. McNulty, Healey, and Ryan Bogar were the goal-scorers in this run, with Healey getting his third on the day. The Penmen responded through Tim Krutz and Gennaro Marra, scoring two goals in six seconds to try to swing momentum for the Penmen. Healey and McNulty would close the scoring out, putting Assumption up five with four minutes to go, comfortably in front. The Hounds would defeat the Penmen in their home conference opener 11-6. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Colin Malone recorded a season-high 18 saves in the crease for the Greyhounds. 
  • Ryan Healey had a game-high of four goals while tying Brady McNulty with five points. 
  • Healey surpassed the 100-career point mark with his goal with 4:49 remaining in regulation. 
  • Southern New Hampshire won 11-of-18 faceoffs, while the Penmen also won the ground ball battle (27-22). 
  • This is Assumption's first win over SNHU since March 30, 2019. 
  • Southern New Hampshire now leads the all-time series 18-8.
