WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University men's lacrosse team could not overcome the second-quarter deficit and would fall to Saint Michael's College, 15-13 in Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Brian Kelly '83 Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Michael's was the first team to score in the opening minute. Assumption answered back with back-to-back goals by Ryan Healey and Patrik McGrath. The Purple Knights closed out the first quarter with a goal from Alex Chirgwin at 1:36. 

The Greyhounds regained a one-goal advantage with Healey netting a tally 27 seconds into the second quarter, but that was responded to by five straight goals by Saint Michael's College to go up 7-3. The Greyhounds slowed the pace in the final five minutes of the half as both sides struck for two goals aside to send the game into halftime with SMC up 9-5. 

The Purple Knights pushed their lead back to five goals with Ethan Hughes' tally to begin the third quarter. Assumption responded with three-straight, with Nolan Johnson and Sam Maciel recording tallies to get within two, but Saint Michael's closed out the quarter with a man-up goal to take a three-goal advantage (11-8). 

Saint Michael's continued to attack, as they opened the fourth with two quick tallies, but it was quickly responded by four straight goals to get within one goal at 13-12. The Purple Knight would refuse to give up as they struck for two goals within the final three minutes to grab a three-goal advantage (15-12). The Greyhounds would continue to press, but they would only get a goal from McGrath. Assumption would run out of time and fall 15-13. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Colin Malone logged five saves in the crease for the Greyhounds. 
• Ryan Healey recorded three goals and three assists, while Sam Maciel and Patrik McGrath joined Healey with three goals. 
• Assumption outshot Saint Michael's 61-32, while the Greyhounds had a slight 16-of-31 edge in faceoffs. 
• The Purple Knights had 14 turnovers, compared to seven for the hosts. 
• Saint Michael's now leads the all-time series 20-7.
