WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University baseball team used a five-run eighth inning to pull away from Bentley University in game two and split the Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Bentley University 11, Assumption University 8
Bentley started fast. The game's first three batters reached via a walk and back-to-back singles before scoring on Steven Rizzuto's opposite-field grand slam.
Michael Crowley bounced back with three straight groundouts.
After the Falcons added two runs in the top of the second, pushing their lead to 6-0, the Greyhounds eventually broke through in the bottom of the fourth with a
Jamison Howland single up the middle, plating
Matthew Holbrook on the play. The Greyhounds tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, as
Jack Barry and
Matthew Holbrook had RBI singles before
Christopher Manzo's three-run homerun to right center.
Bentley answered with one run in the top of the sixth, but
Owen Podolec greeted the new relief pitcher with a first-pitch solo shot to right center field to lead off the bottom of the frame. The Falcons responded with two runs in the seventh to return in front 9-7.
Christopher Rabias chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single through the right side, cutting the Bentley lead to just one (9-8).
After the Falcons plated two runs in the top of the ninth, the Greyhounds threatened with runners on first and second with just one out, but they could not scratch across a run and would fall 11-8.
Corey Chiappone pitched 4.0 innings in relief, allowing just two hits and one earned run while striking out two.
GAME TWO – Assumption University 14, Bentley 9
Assumption was the first team to strike, as
Chris Klein drove in
Owen Podolec with a two-out triple to left-center field with two out in the bottom of the third inning. Bentley answered in the top of the fourth inning, striking for six runs in the frame to go up 6-1.
The Greyhounds closed the gap in the bottom of the fourth as Manzo, Howland, LeFranois, and Podolec recorded RBI in the frame. Bentley added one run in the top of the fifth to push their lead to 7-5.
Assumption answered with authority, taking 9-7 thanks to a four-run bottom of the sixth. Manzo scored on a fielder's choice before
Chris Klein scored on a three-run home run. After a scoreless seventh, Bentley plated two runs in the top of the eighth with a two-run home run to center field. In the bottom of the eighth, the Greyhounds erupted for five runs to go up 14-9.
