ALBANY, N.Y. – The Assumption University baseball team lost game one via walkoff but bounced back with a five-run seventh inning to earn a split of their doubleheader at the College of Saint Rose Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – College of Saint Rose 6, Assumption University 5
Assumption struck first in the top of the first inning, as
Cody Smith drove in
Owen Podolec with a sacrifice fly to left field. The College of Saint Rose would be held off the scoreboard until the bottom of the third inning, when they plated a pair of runs. The Golden Knights expanded their lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs in the frame.
The Greyhounds cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth inning, as
Christopher Rabias and
Matthew Holbrook hit doubles to the outfield, plating all three runs. Assumption tied the game at 5-5 in the top of the ninth inning, as Podolec scored following a double by
Chris Klein. After getting two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Mike Benedetto hit a solo home run to walk off game one for the Golden Knight 6-5.
GAME TWO – Assumption University 9, College of Saint Rose 7
They Greyhounds got on the board in the top of the second inning, as Holbrook scored on a wild pitch. In the top of the third, he laced a single to right field, scoring
Jack Barry on the play. In the top of the fourth, Assumption pushed their advantage to 4-0, as Klein and Barry scored in the frame.
The Golden Knights would not go away quietly, as they plated six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on two home runs. The hosts tacked on another run in the sixth inning to go up 7-4. With their backs against the wall, the Greyhounds exploded with five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 9-7 advantage. Podolec, Barry, Rabias, and Holbrook recorded RBI in the frame to regain the lead. In the bottom of the seventh,
Ryan Cloutier got a flyout and a 4-6-3 double play to earn the save.
