WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University baseball team dropped a pair of close games to Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE – Franklin Pierce University 2, Assumption University 1
Game one was a pitching duel between Assumption's
Griffin O'Connor and Franklin Pierce's Kyle Roche. The Ravens got on the board first, as Kiobel Lugo hit a two-run home run to left center field in the top of the sixth. The Greyhounds responded in the bottom of the frame as
Christopher Rabias drove in
Max Lefrancois with a single to center field.
Assumption would not tie the game despite O'Connor striking out nine in 7.0 innings and scattering six.
Cole Constantine pitched the final two innings, striking out four and allowing just one hit.
GAME TWO – Franklin Pierce University 8, Assumption University 5
Franklin Pierce started fast, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. It plated two runs in the first and two in the second. The Greyhounds answered in the bottom of the third, as
Owen Podolec drove in
Jamison Howland with a ground-rule double to left center field.
Chris Klein got Assumption within one, with a two-RBI single through the right side.
In the bottom of the fourth, Howland tied the game at 4-4, driving in
Patrick McManus with an RBI single up the middle.
Sean Moynihan put Assumption on top, launching a solo home run to left field. FPU answered right back, in the top of the seventh, with a two-run shot to regain the lead. The Ravens tacked on two insurance runs, with one coming in the eighth and one in the ninth to go up 8-5.
