MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Assumption University baseball team erupted for 14 runs as the Greyhounds locked up the final playoff spot with a 14-3 Northeast-10 Conference win over Saint Anselm College Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Assumption jumped out to an early lead as
Cody Smith drove in
Owen Podolec with a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the first. Podolec extended the Greyhound advantage in the top of the second with a two-RBI single to left.
The Greyhounds extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning as
Jack Barry and
Matthew Holbrook hit solo home runs. Assumption broke the game open in the top of the sixth, with Barry,
Christopher Rabias,
Sean Moynihan, and
Max Lefrancois driving in runs in the inning, with Lefrancois capping off the frame with a two-run home run to center field.
The Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, as Zack Clough scored on an error, making it 11-1. The Greyhounds responded with two runs in the top of the eighth, as Lefrancois doubled home
Jamison Howland, and
Chris Klein knocked in Max with a single through the right side of the infield.
After Saint Anselm tagged the Assumption defense for a pair in the bottom of the eighth, Lefrancois drove in his fourth run of the game, with a sacrifice fly to right.
Kyle Keating earned his fifth win of the year following 6.0 innings with five strikeouts and one unearned run.
Justin Ray and
Corey Chiappone tossed the final 3.0 innings and struck out four.
