SHREWSBURY, Mass.– The Assumption University women's rowing team ended their spring campaign this weekend on Lake Quinsigamond, where they competed in the 2024 New England Rowing Championships on Saturday.
The Hounds competed in the women's varsity eight event, which featured three morning heats with 20 boats and afternoon finals. The Assumption women turned in their fastest run of the spring in their morning heat, clocking in with an 8:09.645 to finish in seventh place and earn a spot in the fourth final against Simmons University.
The fourth final in the women's varsity eight took place in the afternoon, and the Hounds put up another spirited race versus their Boston-based rivals from Simmons. Much like their race earlier in the spring, Assumption jumped out to an early lead over the Sharks. Still, Simmons stayed closed and, by the middle of the race, began their push to overtake Assumption. They finally passed them in the third 500 meters of the race and hung on for the victory. Assumption continued to push hard through the latter part of the race and poised another season-best time of 8:07.417 and pushed Simmons to their season-best time of 7:52.513.

"I couldn't be happier or prouder with our effort today," said Dave DeIuliis, Women's Rowing Coach. "Our women posted two seasons' best times today, pushing our rival to their limit and their own season-best time. It was a great ending to the season, and we look forward to continuing to rebuild this team."
