RINDGE, N.H. – After dropping their first game of the day, 4-0, to the University of New Haven, the Assumption University baseball team hit three home runs to rally past Pace University 7-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Thursday at Franklin Pierce University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: University of New Haven 4, Assumption University 0
After not capitalizing on a bases-loaded opportunity with one out in the top of the first inning, the Chargers jumped out to an early lead, as Matt McIntire hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. The Chargers tacked on two two-out runs to extend their lead to 4-0 through three innings.
For the remainder of the game, neither team could establish much offense, as New Haven would pick up the 4-0 win and forced the Greyhounds to the elimination bracket.
Kyle Keating took the loss, scattering nine hits over 5.0 innings while striking out four.
Ryan Cloutier pitched the remaining 3.0 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
GAME TWO: Assumption University 7, Pace University 4
Pace scored four runs in the second inning of the first elimination game, capped off by a three-run home run by Anthony Labita.
Owen Podolec put the Hounds on the board in the top of the third inning with a solo home run to left field.
Cody Smith scampered home on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth to get Assumption within two (4-2).
The Greyhounds would have to wait until the top of the fifth inning to take their first lead of the day, as
Jack Barry launched a grand slam to left field, putting Assumption up 6-4.
Sean Moynihan hit a solo shot to left field in the top of the eighth.
Corey Chiappone earned the win, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings in relief after allowing two hits and recording one strikeout.
Evan McCarthy picked up the save after pitching the eighth and ninth with four strikeouts.
With the win over Pace, the Greyhounds are the first team since the Northeast-10 Conference split into two divisions, to knock out both No. 1 seeds, as a No. 4 seed.
