ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – After dropping their first match to Post University, 3-1, the Assumption University women's volleyball team rallied to take down Molloy University 3-2 in a five-set thriller to close out the Molloy Tri-Match on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One – Post University 3, Assumption University 1
Assumption mounted an impressive comeback in the first set to secure a 26-24 win. Trailing 24-23, the Hounds evened the score with a crucial block by
Kaitlyn Montgomery and
Carly Goodhue, forcing a post-attack error. With the momentum shifting, Goodhue delivered back-to-back kills, both set up by
Marissa Krawczyk, to close out the set.
However, Post rebounded in the second set with a 25-22 win, followed by victories in the third (25-21) and fourth (25-13) sets to close out the match.
Post's Sara Enright led all players with 16 kills. Assumption's
Alexis Distasio paced the Greyhounds with 13 kills, while Montgomery chipped in 10 kills and seven blocks.
Match Two – Assumption University 3, Molloy University 2
In their second match of the day, the Greyhounds took the first point against the hosting Lions, but Molloy roared back with a 17-4 run to run out to a 17-5 advantage. Assumption tried to respond, but every point was answered by the hosts, who would come away with a 25-15 set one win.
The Lions carried the momentum into the second set, racing out to an 8-2 lead. The Hounds would respond with a run of their own, as they would eventually tie the set at 13-13. The two teams would exchange the following few points, but with the score tied at 19-19, the Hounds would go on a 6-2 run led by
Kaitlyn Montgomery and take the second set 25-21.
The Blue and White started strong in the third set, running out to a 4-1 lead. Molloy would rally back and tie the set at 10-10, but Assumption was unfazed by this, as they responded with an 8-2 run to go up 18-12. The Greyhounds' lead would grow to as large as 22-13 and coast to a 25-17 third-set win.
Assumption would start a second-straight set fast, as they ran out to a 5-1 early lead. Molloy slowly chipped away at the margin and would tie the set at 15-15. The Lions would not look back, as they would force the match to a fifth set following a 25-20 set four victory.
In a decisive fifth set, the teams traded the first few points, but with the score tied at 3-3, the hosts went on a 4-1 run to go up 7-4. The Greyhounds bounced back and tied the set at 8-8 but then went on a 7-2 run to cap off the marathon victory against Molloy, 15-10.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Alexis Distasio led the way for the Greyhounds with 23 kills, while Kaitlyn Montgomery (21) and Carly Goodhue (20) totaled 20+ kills on the afternoon.
- Marissa Krawczyk paced the Assumption offense with 44 assists, while Marisa Billone (18) and Natalie Brojek (11) had significant assist numbers.
- Defensively, the Greyhounds were led by Barbara Illig, who recorded 48 digs, while Krawczyk (24) and Distasio (20) had 20+.
- The Hounds had 11 blocks between the two contests on the day while adding 21 service aces.
- Post leads the all-time series with Assumption 4-2, while the Greyhounds now lead the Lions 6-2.
