WEST HAVEN, Conn.— The Assumption University women's basketball team fell short in a defensive slugfest, as the Greyhounds fell to the University of New Haven 39-30 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption started fast in the first quarter, as they hit 5-of-6 shots to begin the game;
Grace Leary led the charge for the Greyhounds with five points, as the Hounds raced out to an 11-5 lead in the first 3:28 of the game. New Haven flipped the script in the second part of the first quarter, ending the frame on a 7-0 run to go up 12-11 after 10 minutes.
Assumption regained the lead at the 4:34 marker in the second quarter following a
Kaijhe Hall layup (19-18). The Chargers responded with a 4-0 to close the half to increase 22-19. Both teams struggled to make baskets in the second half, as the Greyhounds were 5-for-20 for 11 points, while the hosts went 6-of-22 to pull away for a 39-30 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Marina Callahan led the way with 13 points while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds and added a pair of steals.
- New Haven outrebounded Assumption 35-24, which included 11 offensive rebounds.
- Thirty-nine points was the lowest total that the Greyhounds have allowed since Nov. 16, 2024, where Assumption held Felician to 35 points.
- Assumption leads the all-time series 21-9.
