Volleyball falls to Bentley in tight match, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass.– The Assumption University volleyball team dropped a tightly contested Northeast 10 Conference match to Bentley University 3-1, Tuesday evening inside Laska Gymnasium. 
 
THE BASICS
Score: Bentley University 3, Assumption University 1
Records: Greyhounds (5-16, 1-3 NE10) | Falcons (17-4, 7-0 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED 
The first set was tightly contested from the first few points. Bentley would start to pull away with Assumption leading 13-12, and the Falcons would string together six of seven points to go up 18-14. The Greyhounds would battle back to take a 22-21 late lead, before the reigning regional champions would get four-straight points to take the opening set 25-22. 
 
In the second set, Bentley would race out to an 8-1 lead. The Hounds would not go quietly, as they would fight back to get within two at 19-17. The Falcons showed their experience and would capture six of the final seven points to go up 2-0 following a 25-18 set two win. The third set was more of the same, as Bentley went out front early, but Assumption would bounce back to tie at 6-6 and eventually take the lead at 8-7. The two teams would continue to trade runs, but with the score tied at 23-23, it would be the Hounds that would come out on top following a Grace Presswood kill.
 
In the fourth set, the Falcons started fast, as they started the frame on a 9-2 run. The Greyhounds would cut the deficit down to four (10-6), but Bentley went on a 7-1 to go up 17-7. The hosts would attempt a comeback, but it would be the Falcons that would come out on top, 25-16. 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Madison Lupino led Assumption with 13 kills, while Kaitlyn Montgomery totaled ten kills and three solo blocks. 
  • Marissa Krawczyk and Marisa Billone combined for 31 assists, with Krawczyk having 16. 
  • Tatiana Calderin paced three Greyhounds with double-digit digs, with Brennah Abilheria-Cargill (13) and Krawczyk (12) hitting 10+ digs.  
  • The Hounds are the first team since Adelphi to take a set from Bentley, snapping a streak of 13-straight set wins. 
  • Bentley leads the all-time series 47-5.
