Assumption Athletics Mourns the Passing of Former Voice of Greyhounds Kevin Hickey

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Assumption University Department of Athletics mourns the passing of the former voice of the Greyhounds, Kevin Hickey, who passed away on Friday, August 14th, after a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Hickey," stated Assumption University Athletic Director Eric Gobiel. "His devotion to his students and unwavering passion for the university were truly remarkable. For decades and countless games, he was the familiar and beloved "voice" of Assumption Athletics. He leaves behind an incredible legacy and impact on our students and department. On behalf of the Athletics Department, I extend our deepest condolences to the Hickey family, his friends, and colleagues during this difficult time."

Kevin was Assumption University's NCAA faculty representative. He served on two national NCAA academic rules committees and on the management council for all Division II colleges. Closer to home, the "voice of the hounds" enjoyed announcing home football and basketball games.

Kevin was a professor of Global Studies at Assumption University for more than 50 years. He and colleague Professor Demetri Kantarelis co-founded the Interdisciplinary Environmental Association in 1994 and ran conferences for over twenty-five years. The IEA continues to publish academic journals on environmental topics and maintains an academic honor society.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation for the compassionate care he received at St. Vincent Hospital's ICU and, especially, at Dodge Park Rest Home, which supported him and his family during his final transition.

A fitting tribute to Kevin's memory and generous nature would be either to volunteer your time or donate to a cause you care about, or to donate to fixing his home parish's antiquated furnace at either CTKworc.org or by check payable to Christ the King (memo line "heating system"), 1052 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA 01602.
