WORCESTER, Mass.— The Assumption University women's ice hockey team dropped their first New England Women's Hockey Alliance contest of the year, as the Greyhounds fell to Franklin Pierce, 2-1 in NEWHA action, Saturday evening at the Worcester Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Assumption was the first team to get on the scoreboard, as Caroline Lilly scored on the power play at 5:06 of the first period.
Kayla McGaffigan and
Heather Ajakie picked up assists on the play. The Greyhounds would maintain the lead until just past the halfway mark of the middle stanza, as Emma Laroche scored while the teams were skating four on four. The game would head into the third period tied at 1-1, despite Assumption outshooting their opposition 34-17 through 40 minutes.
Franklin Pierce would find the go-ahead goal at 12:35 of the third period, as Caleigh Murphy scored off of the Bo Dean rebounded shot. The hosts attempted to find the equalizer, but they were whistled for five penalties in the third period and would fall 2-1 in regulation.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jadyn Weiser recorded 31 saves in the loss.
- Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 45-33, while also winning 34-of-52 faceoffs.
- The Greyhounds were the only team to score on the power play, as they went 1-for-4, while the Ravens were scoreless on six attempts.
- Franklin Pierce still leads the all-time series 7-2-1.
