SPARKILL, NY. —The Assumption University women's basketball team began their season on neutral ground with a 20-point trouncing of D'Youville University on Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
THE BASICS:
Scores: Assumption University 63, D'Youville University 43
Records: Greyhounds (1-0, 0-0 NE10), Saints (0-1, 0-0 ECC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
A 21-9 first quarter was a fiery start to the season. A Greyhound team that struggled from three-point range a season ago found immediate success in the first quarter, going 2-5 from distance. Following up a strong first quarter with a second quarter outscoring the Saints 18-9, it looked as if there was little rust that needed shaking off.
D'Youville managed a second half where they outscored Assumption 25-24, but all the damage was already done by the Hounds, coasting to the 20-point margin of victory.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Teagan Curran scored a career-high 22 points, a personal best by nine points. She went 8-13 from the field and 3-5 from distance.
- Teagan Kamm had a well-rounded game of eight points, five rebounds, and two assists.
- There were 32 points scored in the paint for the Greyhounds.
- The Blue and White scored 19 points off turnovers.
- This was the first meeting between these programs. Assumption leads the all-time series 1-0.
